Gin

Gin is a spirit whose primary flavor is taken from juniper berries. The two basic categories of gin today consist of distilled gin and compound gin. Distilled gin is traditional in its creation, by re-distilling a neutral spirit with juniper spirits and other botanicals. Compound gin is made by flavoring a neutral spirit and/or other ‘natural flavorings’ without re-distillation. Gin usually consist of 40% alcohol by volume.

Rum

Rum is a distilled alcoholic drink created from sugarcane by-products like molasses and sugarcane juice by a process of fermentation and distillation. Afterwards, the clear liquid is usually aged in oak and other barrels. Light rums are most often used in cocktails, while golden and dark rums are fitting for drinking straight, or for cooking. The majority of the world’s rum production happens in and around the Caribbean and in several Central and South American countries.

Tequila

Tequila is a spirit primarily created using a Blue Agave plant in the area surrounding the city of Tequila. The red volcanic soil in the surrounding region is very appropriate to the growing of the blue agave. Tequila is usually produced at 38%-40% alcohol by volume.

Vodka

Vodka is distilled beverage that is almost always produced by a fermented substance such as grain, wheat, potato, rye, or grape. Vodka is usually drunk straight up, and used in a cocktail or mixed drink.

Whiskey

Whiskey is a type of alcoholic beverage distilled from fermented grain. In creating whiskey, different grains are used for different varieties, which include barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and maize. Afterwards, whiskey is aged in wooden barrel, generally made of white oak. Some whiskeys are blended (malt and grain), and vary in alcoholic content and quality.

Beer

Beer is produced by brewing and fermentation of starches, for the most part derived from cereal grains, usually malted barley and also wheat, maize (corn) and rice. Most beer is flavored with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, although other flavorings such as herbs or fruit may at times be included. Beer is the world’s oldest and widely consumed alcoholic beverage. The two most commonly categorized beers are pale lagers and ale’s. Pale ale’s have very pale to golden color. Ale’s also vary from pale ale to a brown ale color. Most beers have an alcohol by volume content from 4%-6%.

Wine

Wine is an alcoholic beverage, usually produced through fermented grape juice. Grapes have a natural chemical balance that they can ferment without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes or other nutrients. Wine is created by fermenting crushed grapes using different types of yeast. In this process, the grapes come in contact with the natural yeast found on its skin. During the fermentation process, with a closely monitored amount of heat, the sugars and the yeast combined with carbon dioxide, transform into alcohol. The solids that are left after this process are then pressed to enhance color and flavor.
